From Clay to Craft: The Journey of Bear Necessity Designs
What began as a creative outlet—designing lightweight, colorful earrings from my dining table—quickly turned into something more. I called it Bear Necessity Jewels.
My husband has always (since childhood) been known as “Bear” to everyone outside of family. And with a last name that sounds like Bear-ow, of course we had to incorporate it into the name! It also reflected our love of nature and handmade art. But more than that, the name stands for the core values we hold dear—the bear necessities in our lives: faith, family, country, and the beauty of nature.

That’s where it started—in my kitchen, with clay and creativity.
My first market booth was a table and a handful of earrings I made late at night. But customers showed up, supported us, and asked for more—more variety, more meaning, more handmade pieces that told stories.
So I started exploring new materials: wood, acrylic, stained-glass techniques. We bought a laser. We grew a following. And we became Bear Necessity Designs.

Same spirit. More laser power. A whole lot of growth.
Where We Are Now
Today, Bear Necessity Designs offers rustic gifts, personalized gifts, and decor designed to celebrate what matters most. We’re still a small business. Still working from home. Still doing it one handmade piece at a time.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
